Side Porch Steak House Serves Fine Food in Historic Setting

Ask Donna Yancey‚ who along with her husband‚ Bill‚ owns the Side Porch Steak House‚ if the couple ever dreamed of getting into the restaurant business‚ and she’ll give you a quick answer: “Never!”

How‚ then‚ did the Yanceys come to be the proprietors of “the oldest and best steak house” in Bartlett?

When their son‚ David Bell‚ was in high school‚ he worked at the restaurant for the former owners. They wanted to sell‚ and David talked his parents into buying. But fate must have had a hand in the deal as well‚ because for six years in a row now‚ diners in Bartlett have voted Side Porch their favorite place to have a steak.

Opened in 1976 in the Stage Coach Historical District‚ the Side Porch (now glassed in) is known not only for steaks‚ but also for seafood‚ chicken and chops. And don’t forget Donna’s homemade pecan pie‚ chocolate chip pecan pie and brownie sundaes.

The fine food and historic ambiance have something to do with the restaurant’s popularity‚ but it’s more than that. “I think it’s the family atmosphere and cozy atmosphere and good service‚” Donna says. “And it’s not a chain. We have wonderful customers.”
